Haroon Patel's highlight of the season was during the Kwartha Classic. He is a grade 9 student whose slowly developed into a pivotal role player off the bench. He is a threat on offense with his capability to penetrate the lane and shoot the three. Where he shined brightest in this tournament was on the defensive end, where he consistently shut down our opponents primary scorers. Haroon will be looking to defend his MVP title as the Saints will be back next year.

1st Team All-Stars

2018 NIT Tournament All-Stars

Kyle Atchison is a pure scorer who is an incredibly tough match up for defenders as he combines strong inside play with the ability to drive hard to the basket and an excellent three point shot. He rebounds extremely well at both ends of the floor and is able to play a variety of different roles on defense, often guarding a variety of different positions. As a Gr. 10 captain of the Perth Jr. Boys’ team, he was required to adapt his style and game to suit a variety of team needs while remaining the leader scorer and one of the top rebounders. Kyle has a bright future in the PDCI program and his passion for the game and desire to improve will serve him well as he transitions to the senior roster next year.

James Pennywake is a polite, good-natured young man.  His effort and compete level were excellent all year, and as a result was our team's leading rebounder in most games.  He improved his shooting and footwork but his best asset was the intensity, and compete level he displayed every game.  His work ethic was contagious and earned the respect of his teammates.  James is deserving of this award, and knows that hard work can create great results.

Donald Taylor is the ultimate everything player. He usually defends the other team's best player and is relied upon to run the offense. He is a 6'2" point guard who can play all 5 positions. He is deadly from the three and can finish inside when run off of the line. He can score through double teams but is a great passer who always finds the open man. As a grade 9 he averaged a triple double in points, assists and rebounds.

Khang Nguyen is the motor that drives the team's engine.  On offense, Khang attacks the basket from both sides and finishes with finesse.  He is a consistent threat from outside the arc, with range that extends well out from the line.  He leads by being the most vocal person on the court and by constantly working to improve his overall game.

Ben Cooper mirrors characteristics of his favourite NBA player, Allen Iverson, in many ways.  He utilizes smooth and aggressive ball handling skills and up-fakes to create space between himself and defenders.  Ben likes to break down defenders to get in the key, and finish strong against larger defenders awaiting him at the rim.  He pairs this with a strong outside shot, to present a well rounded offensive threat.  The tenacity and heart that Iverson plays with is quite evident in Ben.  This trait that is difficult to coach into players, is a foundation for Ben and how he approaches games and practice sessions.   On the defensive end, Ben is strong with on the ball pressure, applying quick footwork and sneaky hands to obtain steals.

2nd Team NIT All-Stars

Ben Bates is the reason why Thomas A Stewart went deep in the classic this year.  He was always the top player on the score sheet and the game leader in rebounding. Even when he’s not scoring, he does many other things to help the team win.  His hard work and determination  set  an example for the other players as this team was one teams would not look forward to on the schedule. Ben was also the MVP of this team!

Ben Gisemba  is a versatile player who can play any position but controlled the game for us as a small forward. He is a dynamic threat on offence with his ability off the dribble, his post moves, and he can knock down shots from distance. Defensively he is an aggressive and disruptive force. Ben had a tremendous season as he continued to grow as a player and team leader.

Matt Enns is a relentless player that never back down from any challenges. He is a threat every time he touches the ball due to his ability to dribble drive to the basket with great ball control and intense pace. Defensively Matt will guard just about anybody putting pressure without any letdown.  His hard work ethic rises above all competitors, fierce and fiery. Matt will continue to improve his game next year with the help of his teammates, from whom he has a lot of respect.

Nolan Nukkala has a strong passion for the game of basketball.  Although Nolan is an excellent 3pt shooter and he can drive to the basket with ease, his biggest strength is that he is a team player.  Nolan is an unselfish player with the ability to seemingly always make the “right play”.  Nolan has a high basketball IQ which allows him to play excellent positional defence and adjust to his opponent on a game to game basis.  Nolan’s work ethic and desire to improve will continue to separate him from the pack.
